Purposeful Play:

Experience the joyful nature of Orff-based learning for young music makers. This is play with a purpose as we explroe the creative challenge of planning lessons for this age group. Come prepared to sing, dance, chant, and play while exploring age-appropriate materials for our youngest learners as well as curriculum integration ideas for students in grades K-2. This includes creative STEAM units of study.LuAnn teaches general music classes in grades PK-3rd as well as Orff-based toddler/parent music classes at Kentucky Country Day School in Louisville. She completed Orff teacher training courses Levels I-III and is a frequent presenter at conferences and workshops. LuAnn is a past-President of the Kentucky Orff Schulwerk Assoication, and she served as National Conference Co-Chair for the 2012 AOSA Professional Development Conference in St. Louis. LuAnn was honored to serve as Region VI Representative on the AOSA National Board of Trustees from 2013-2016.

Dr. Robert Amchin is a distinguished teaching professor of music education at the University of Louisville (KY) where he teaches graduate and undergraduate classes including Elementary methods, Introduction to Orff Schulwerk, secondary general music, research, and foundations classes. He studied at the Orff Institute (Salzburg), New England Conservatory of Music, Memphis State University, Hofstra University, Hamline University, and the University of Michigan. Rob was an elementary music specialist in Texas and still works with children as an artist-in-residence. Amchin has taught Orff teacher-training courses and workshops around the world including invitations to Finland, China, Russia, Austria, Israel, Poland, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Canada. He has presented at numerous American Orff Schulwerk Association (AOSA) professional development conferences and has contributed to various publications and projects related to music teaching and learning.

Additionally, he studied at the Kodály Institute in Kecskemet, Hungary. Mr. Howard currently serves as the general music teacher at Brenda Cowan Elementary School, an creative arts focused environment that includes intermediate majors in music/voice, piano, band, orchestra, drama, dance, visual arts, and library/maker space creations; the Preparatory choir director of the Lexington Singers Children’s Choir, both in Lexington, Kentucky. He is an active clinician for several music educator workshops and conferences across the US, specializing in early education, literacy strategies, and curriculum; directs festival and honor choirs, and teaches Kodály certification courses in Alabama and Kentucky. He is the past-president of the Kentucky Association of Kodály Educators (KAKE), and current Midwest Regional 1 Representative for the Organization of American Kodály Educators (OAKE). He publishes articles on Music ConstructED and manages his Music Makers line of Kodály-based music education materials. |

Christa Jones teaches General Music at Concord West Side Elementary School in Elkhart, Indiana. She is an active clinician and has presented at state, regional, and national music education conferences and workshops. She completed the Master of Music Education degree at VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, IL. She completed all three levels of Orff Schulwerk teacher education at VanderCook, and has pursued post-level-three work including Orff masterclass and curriculum studies. Ms. Jones serves on the boards of the Indiana Music Educators Association and Indiana Orff Schulwerk Association. She is co-editor of INform Magazine, Indiana MEA’s professional publication.

Christa Jones Student Voices: Celebrating the Music and Culture of Your School’s Families MMOSA Mini Session ONLINE! December 11, 2021 join us for a Coffee Talk at 9:30am Presentation 10:00am-11:00am Connect your students’ home and school musical traditions and encourage family involvement by conducting a folk song collection in your own music classroom! In this session, Christa Jones shares her experience with conducting a school-wide folk song collection and creating a school songbook that celebrates her students’ various backgrounds and musical traditions. Students and music educators alike benefit from a culturally responsive classroom environment that affirms students’ backgrounds and links students’ home and school communities. Learn how to conduct a song collection at your own school, explore issues of cultural responsiveness, and discuss how to respectfully integrate music of student cultures into the Orff Schulwerk music classroom. Practical consideration will be given to online and in-person collection methods and teaching strategies to support teachers and students in the COVID-19 world. Participants will leave this session with a toolbox of songs and games from the United States and around the world! Participants will receive:

A Kaleidoscope Of Activities For The Pre-K Music Classroom MMOSA Mini Session ONLINE H. Grant Poole H. Grant Poole teaches public preschool music in Danville, VA. Mr. Poole collaborated with Averett University to develop Growing Up Musically, an early childhood music curriculum. He has written articles on successful practices in the early childhood music classroom. Mr. Poole was a presenter at the 2021 ECMMA International Convention, and has presented at various state and regional conferences. Amy Fenton is a music and movement teacher for children in grades pre-K through 4 in Grand Ledge, Michigan. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance (with a minor in Flute) and certification in Music Education from The University of Arizona. She also holds Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Grand Valley State University. Amy was named the 2018 Michigan Music Educator of the Year. She has presented sessions at AOSA Professional Development Conferences and workshops at the local, state and national levels. Amy has taught recorder pedagogy for AOSA Teacher Education courses in Texas, Michigan and Connecticut. She has served as President of the Mid-Michigan Chapter, as well as Regional Representative and Treasurer on the AOSA National Board of Trustees.
